Schumer hopes tax impasse could break after recess

The Wyden-Smith tax bill is headed to the Senate floor Thursday for an almost certainly doomed cloture vote. But Senate Democrats say they'll look to break the impasse on taxes.

“I think if [Senate Republicans] block the bill, they’re going to feel a lot of pressure over the August recess,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said at a news conference this afternoon. “And maybe they’ll come back to us and say, ‘Okay we’re willing to negotiate.’ That’s what we hope would happen.”
