Mike Johnson, John Thune

Now it’s time for the hard part

After 24 hours of backroom talks and frantic lobbying from President Donald Trump, Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the GOP leadership teams, the House approved the compromise budget resolution today by a 216-214 margin.

Two Republicans – Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.) and Victoria Spartz (Ind.) – voted no, along with all 212 House Democrats.

Reps. David Valadao (R-Calif.) and Bob Onder (R-Mo.) did not vote. Valadao represents a swing district in the Central Valley of California. Sources said he was out of town. Onder represents a deep red district east of St. Louis.
