GOP defense hawks blast planned troop drawdown

The chairs of the House and Senate Armed Services committees on Wednesday denounced the United States’ planned drawdown of troops from Romania.

In a joint statement, Senate Armed Services Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and his House counterpart, Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), slammed the planned end of a rotation that dates back to Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and brought a U.S. Army brigade to Romania. The Romanian defense ministry announced the news Wednesday.
