Finance members talk Trump’s China deal

President Donald Trump declared Thursday that he struck a trade deal with China, but Republican senators on the panel that oversees trade policy are waiting for the details before celebrating.

The agreement comes at a sticky political moment for Republicans when it comes to Trump’s tariff campaign. The Senate was forced to take multiple votes on blocking tariffs this week, which are uncomfortable for many GOP senators. The administration’s decision to allow more low-tariff beef imports from Argentina has upset ranchers and put Republicans in a tough spot.
